This medication helps to lower total cholesterol and bad LDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and also reduces triglycerides and Apo-B protein levels. It increases the levels of good cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, to support cardiovascular health. This drug is used as an adjunct therapy to improve blood lipid levels effectively when used in conjunction with dietary management.

For adults, the usual starting dose is 1 to 2 mg of pitavastatin calcium taken once daily. Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. First, it should not be used in patients with an allergy to any of its ingredients or in patients with severe liver dysfunction, as well as in pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children. Additionally, patients taking cyclosporine or those with muscle diseases should not take this medication. Care must be taken when this medication is used in patients with liver and kidney dysfunction, those who consume alcohol excessively, the elderly, patients with hypothyroidism, and those with a history of muscle diseases. During treatment, symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness, liver function abnormalities, low platelet counts, rashes, or itching may occur, and if these symptoms develop, it is essential to consult a doctor immediately. Rarely, rhabdomyolysis, a condition characterized by muscle weakness or severe pain, may occur, and if muscle-related symptoms appear, the use of this medication should be discontinued immediately. Since this drug is mainly metabolized in the liver, regular liver function tests should be performed, and the treatment should be discontinued if liver function worsens. Moreover, taking this medication in conjunction with certain drugs (e.g., cyclosporine, fibrates, niacin, etc.) can lead to a rapid deterioration of kidney function; hence, they should be avoided or used with caution. The elderly may experience adverse reactions more easily due to declining physical function, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication due to potential harm to the fetus or baby. This medication has not been confirmed for safety and efficacy in children, so it should not be used in this population. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. Store the medication in its original container and out of reach of children; transferring it to another container may cause accidents. Finally, consult a doctor before taking this medication to inform them of your health status and any other medications you are taking.
