This medication is effective for gastric and duodenal ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding such as peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, and hemorrhagic gastritis. It is also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It helps improve gastric mucosal lesions, including erosion, bleeding, erythema, and edema that occur during acute exacerbations of acute gastritis and chronic gastritis. It is effective in alleviating symptoms of various gastrointestinal diseases and protecting the gastric mucosa. Therefore, this medication is widely used in the treatment of gastrointestinal-related diseases.

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who have had an allergic reaction to this medication or other H2 receptor antagonists should not be administered this medication. Additionally, this medication contains lactose and should not be given to patients with hereditary diseases that prevent lactose breakdown. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with drug allergies, impaired kidney function, heart disease, weakened liver function, and the elderly. When using this medication, various side effects may occur, so caution is required. Severe allergic reactions, a decrease in blood cell counts, syndromes causing severe damage to the skin and mucous membranes, liver dysfunction, muscle damage, cardiac rhythm disturbances, consciousness disorders or seizures, kidney inflammation and worsening of function, and lung inflammation may occur. If these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare provider. Furthermore, during the administration of this medication, various symptoms such as rashes, hives, changes in blood cell counts, gastrointestinal problems, changes in blood pressure, respiratory symptoms, liver dysfunction, psychiatric symptoms, endocrine disorders, and myalgia may manifest. If such symptoms occur, it is advisable to discontinue administration. This medication dissolves in the mouth but is not absorbed through the oral mucosa, so it should be swallowed with water or saliva. Caution should be taken when patients on dialysis take this medication with phosphate binders, as the effectiveness may be reduced. This medication may interact when taken with certain antifungal agents or certain anticancer medications, so it is important to inform the doctor or pharmacist if such medications are being taken. Elderly patients may have a higher likelihood of impaired kidney function, and this medication should be used cautiously with a reduced dosage or extended dosing intervals. For women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, this medication should only be administered when the benefits outweigh the risks, as safety has not been fully established. Additionally, this medication may be excreted in breast milk, so nursing mothers are advised to discontinue breastfeeding. Safety in pediatric patients has not been adequately established, so caution is required due to limited experience in its use. Lastly, this medication can mask the symptoms of gastric cancer, so it should only be used after the malignancy has been conclusively ruled out.
