This drug plays an important role in alleviating infections against diverse causative organisms, thereby protecting eye health. Therefore, this medication is used for the treatment of blepharitis, dacryocystitis, styes, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and corneal ulcers.
For mild to moderate infections, instill 1-2 drops into the infected area every 4 hours. For severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually reduce and stop. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients who have an allergic reaction to this medication, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or bacitracin. During use, symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness of the eyelids, conjunctivitis, or temporary stinging of the eyes may occur, and usage should be stopped immediately if these symptoms arise. Additionally, irritation or pain in the eyes may occur, so if discomfort persists, it is necessary to consult a healthcare professional. To prevent the occurrence of resistant bacteria, it is recommended to check the sensitivity of the infectious bacteria when using this medication and to use it for only the minimum required duration for treatment. It is advisable to assess the possibility of severe allergic reactions in advance through thorough medical history and skin response tests. With prolonged or repeated use, resistant bacteria may proliferate excessively; in such cases, the use of the medication should be discontinued, and appropriate treatment should be received. The ingredients of this medication should not be used with certain antibiotics, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your healthcare provider. When using aminoglycoside antibiotics systemically, careful monitoring of blood levels is required. Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment, as it may help prevent the spread of infection. When instilling the medication, vision may temporarily become blurred, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided until normal vision is restored. When this medication is used with anticoagulants, the risk of bleeding may increase, so coagulation status should be monitored frequently, and anticoagulant dosage should be adjusted if necessary. It should be used only in special circumstances during pregnancy, and during breastfeeding, because of potential side effects on the infant, breastfeeding should be discontinued or used with caution after careful consideration. In case of overdose, symptoms such as inflammation of the eyes, redness, increased tears, swelling, and itching may appear, and management of serum drug levels may be necessary, including treatments like dialysis. This medication should not be injected directly into the eye, and issues regarding drug resistance have been reported, hence it should be used under the guidance of a qualified professional.
