This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone to patients starting treatment, and if monotherapy is insufficient, it may be used in combination with metformin. Furthermore, it is combined when blood sugar is not controlled with either metformin or sulfonylurea monotherapy. This medication can also be added when blood sugar control is inadequate during insulin therapy, and it is combined when the combination of sulfonylurea and metformin is ineffective. It is used when blood sugar control remains a challenge after combination therapy with empagliflozin and metformin. Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in individuals with allergies to the active ingredient or other components. It is also safe not to administer it to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is required when used with other medications that can cause hypoglycemia. In particular, when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medications, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, necessitating dosage adjustments. In patients with mild to moderate heart failure, this drug should be used cautiously; it is not recommended in severe cases. Acute pancreatitis may occur during the use of this medication, so if severe abdominal pain persists, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. A blistering skin condition resembling pemphigus may appear, so if any skin abnormality develops, stop taking the medication and consult a specialist. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur while taking this medication, so appropriate action should be taken immediately if symptoms arise. Pregnant or nursing women are advised to avoid using this medication, especially since safety has not been established for pregnant women. It is not advisable to use this medication in children and adolescents, particularly in those under 10 years of age. Elderly patients can use this medication safely without specific dosage adjustments. Patients with poor kidney or liver function can also use this medication without dosage adjustments, but must follow a physician's instructions. In cases of overdose, unabsorbed medication should be removed from the gastrointestinal tract, and symptoms should be monitored while receiving necessary treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container is not advisable for quality maintenance and safety reasons.
