Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used along with diet and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone, but in cases where initial treatment is difficult to control blood sugar with monotherapy, it is used in combination with metformin. Additionally, it is included in combination therapy when blood sugar control is insufficient with either metformin or sulfonylureas alone, or when insulin treatment is insufficient, or when there is no improvement with the combined treatment of sulfonylureas and metformin. It is also administered when blood sugar is not controlled in the combined therapy with empagliflozin and metformin, thereby enhancing blood sugar control. Overall, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control in conjunction with various existing treatment methods.
The recommended dosage of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.
This medicine should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to the active ingredient or any other components. It is safe not to administer this medication to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. When used together with insulin or sulfonylureas that may cause hypoglycemia, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. Experience with this medication in patients with heart failure, especially severe heart failure, is limited, so it should be used with caution and is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis, such as severe abdominal pain, occur during treatment with this medication, stop taking it immediately and consult a healthcare professional. If bullous skin disease such as pemphigus is suspected, this medication should also be discontinued and a specialist should be consulted. This medication can cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal disturbances, infections, and skin rashes, so it is important to consult a doctor if any unusual symptoms occur. Use of this medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and caution is required during breastfeeding. It is not recommended for children under 10 years of age or for pediatric and adolescent patients aged 10 to 17 years as safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established. Elderly patients can use it without special dosage adjustment, and dosage adjustment is also not needed for patients with impaired kidney or liver function. In the case of overdose, remaining medication in the gastrointestinal tract should be removed, symptoms should be monitored, and necessary treatment should be received. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring to another container may cause accidents or deterioration in quality, so caution is necessary.
