This medication is effective for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers and helps relieve the symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also used for long-term maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease to help prevent recurrence. In patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, it is used in combination with antibiotics to enhance treatment effectiveness. It is also used for conditions associated with excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medication is used to improve and treat symptoms of gastrointestinal diseases.
Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: generally, 10 mg is administered orally once daily, and 20 mg may be administered once daily depending on symptoms. Gastric ulcers are treated for up to 8 weeks, and duodenal ulcers for up to 6 weeks. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks, and if untreated after 8 weeks, additional treatment for 8 weeks may include 10 mg or 20 mg given twice daily (20 mg twice daily).
This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to specific components or who have previously shown hypersensitivity reactions to this drug or similar drugs. Moreover, it should not be taken by patients currently taking certain antibiotics or other medications, nor by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with poor liver function, elderly patients, or individuals with a history of drug allergies should use this medication with additional caution. While taking this medication, a variety of side effects may occur, including skin rash, itching, blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, cardiovascular issues, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological issues, respiratory problems, muscle pain, skin abnormalities, vision or hearing issues, and urinary system abnormalities; if any symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. Additionally, regular blood tests and liver function tests are necessary during long-term use, and caution should be exercised as there may be an increased risk of fractures associated with osteoporosis. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion and may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach; therefore, if symptoms such as diarrhea persist, inform the medical staff immediately. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. There may be interactions with other medications, so if you are taking any other drugs, you must inform the medical staff, especially as it should not be taken together with certain antivirals or antibiotics. It is safest not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not chew or crush this medication; swallow it whole as a tablet. Keep it out of the reach of children and do not transfer it to another container. Long-term use may cause impaired absorption of vitamin B12, so caution is necessary, and if any abnormal symptoms appear on the skin or joints, consult the medical staff immediately. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so it is important to receive treatment based on symptoms.
