How to take

Adult dose

Gastric Ulcers, Duodenal Ulcers: Usually 10 mg is administered orally once daily; up to 20 mg once daily may be given based on symptoms. Treatment duration for gastric ulcers is 8 weeks, and for duodenal ulcers, 6 weeks. Erosive or Ulcerative Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks; if no effect after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg may be given twice daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have hypersensitivity to certain ingredients or benzimidazole derivatives or who have experienced such reactions in the past. Also, when used in combination with amoxicillin or clarithromycin for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics or macrolides should not be given this medication. Patients taking specific drugs such as terfenadine, cisapride, pimodidine, astemizole, atazanavir, or rilpivirine should also avoid using this medication. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. Patients with liver function issues, the elderly, and those with a history of drug hypersensitivity should use this medication with caution. This medication may cause allergic reactions such as skin rash, urticaria, and itching, and immediate cessation of use should occur if these symptoms appear. Regular blood tests may be necessary as blood tests may show decreased red or white blood cell counts or abnormalities. Abnormalities may also appear in liver function tests, so it is crucial to periodically check liver enzyme levels. It may affect the cardiovascular system, causing hypertension, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, etc., and caution should be exercised. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may occur, and severe cases could lead to significant problems such as gastrointestinal bleeding or hepatitis. The central nervous system may exhibit symptoms such as headache, insomnia, anxiety, dizziness, and drowsiness, necessitating caution when driving or operating machinery. Respiratory symptoms like cough, pharyngitis, and asthma may occur, and in rare cases, serious conditions such as pneumonia may develop. Muscle pain, joint pain, skin rash, hair loss, dermatitis, and severe cases of skin disorders like Stevens-Johnson syndrome have also been reported. Eye-related symptoms such as cataracts, glaucoma, and visual disturbances may require consultation with a specialist if vision changes occur. Urinary system symptoms like proteinuria, cystitis, and hematuria may arise, and caution is advised due to the risk of kidney function issues. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of fractures related to osteoporosis and lead to hypomagnesemia, so it is necessary to periodically check magnesium levels. Inhibition of gastric acid secretion may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract, so immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is essential if persistent diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs. While this medication does not significantly affect driving or machinery operation, caution is still warranted in the presence of drowsiness. There may be drug interactions, particularly when taken with warfarin, methotrexate, atazanavir, and antibiotics, thus consulting a professional is necessary. For pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, it is safest to avoid this medication, and those planning to become pregnant should also consult healthcare providers. The elderly may experience adverse reactions more easily due to decreased liver function, so they should pay close attention to symptoms. Safety in children has not been established, and its use is not recommended. When taking this medication, do not chew or crush the tablet; swallow it whole, and keep it out of reach of children. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, treatment and supportive therapy should be based on symptoms and follow the physician's directions.
