Improvement of symptoms and urinary flow in benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduction in the need for surgery
This medication improves symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduces the size of the enlarged prostate, and facilitates urinary flow. It also helps decrease the incidence of acute urinary retention and reduces the need for surgeries such as transurethral resection of the prostate and prostatectomy. Therefore, it is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
As Finasteride, 5 mg is administered orally once daily without regard to meals. Even if symptoms improve during treatment, a minimum treatment duration of 6 months is necessary.
This medication is not to be used in children or women. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication, as it may pose a risk to male fetuses. While taking this medication, symptoms such as depression or mood changes may occur, and any such symptoms should be discussed with a healthcare provider. Individuals with hypersensitivity to this medication or those with specific genetic lactose intolerance, soy oil, or peanut allergies should not use it. It should be used cautiously in patients with liver dysfunction or disorders related to fat metabolism. This medication generally has few side effects and they are usually temporary, but there may be instances of sexual dysfunction or breast-related adverse effects. There have been reports of male breast cancer associated with long-term use, but a clear causal relationship has not been established. This medication may increase the risk of prostate cancer, hence regular examinations are necessary. It is advisable to periodically check blood lipid levels while on this medication. This medication has minimal interactions with other drugs. Pregnant women or nursing mothers should not take this medication, and women who may become pregnant should be particularly cautious. The safety in children has not been established, so it should not be used. The elderly can use it without dose adjustment. This medication may lower prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, so this should be considered during testing. There is no specific treatment for overdose, but the recommended dosage should be adhered to. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers.

Mood changes, depression, suicidal thoughts, sexual function-related adverse reactions (erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders, decreased seminal fluid), breast enlargement, breast tenderness, rash, muscle pain, weakness, anxiety, testicular pain, blood issues, male infertility, heartburn, dizziness, headache, tingling in both hands, fatigue
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a well-closed container that does not allow air, and it is recommended to keep it at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the effectiveness of the medication for a longer period.
