This medicine is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, especially reflux esophagitis. It is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It helps alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. In other words, this drug is used to improve the reflux problem between the stomach and esophagus, alleviating uncomfortable symptoms and preventing recurrence.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults - Treatment of reflux esophagitis: Administer 40/800 mg once daily for 4 weeks; if not resolved or symptoms persist, continue for an additional 4 weeks. - Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of esophagitis: Administer 20/800 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: Administer 20/800 mg once daily; if symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further medical evaluation is warranted. - For continuous symptom control after symptom relief:

Precautions

This drug should not be used by certain patients. Patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to this drug or its ingredients, patients taking certain antiviral medications, breastfeeding women, and patients with a history of myocardial infarction should avoid administration. Caution should be exercised in elderly patients, patients with liver or kidney dysfunction, severe gastrointestinal ulcers, cardiac or pulmonary dysfunction, and patients needing sodium intake restrictions due to electrolyte imbalances. This drug may cause various side effects, commonly headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea, and rarely blood abnormalities, allergic reactions, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, and muscle pain have been reported. Particularly, long-term use may lead to electrolyte disturbances such as hypomagnesemia, requiring regular examinations, and if symptoms like muscle pain or weakness appear, immediate consultation with a doctor is advised. This drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may increase bacterial growth in the stomach; persistent diarrhea should be reported to a healthcare professional, and osteoporosis patients should be cautious of increased fracture risk. Furthermore, this drug has many drug interactions; caution is needed when used in combination with other medications. For example, simultaneous use with anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, certain antiviral drugs, and antidepressants may pose a risk of side effects due to changes in drug concentration, so doctor's guidance should be followed. Safety data regarding use during pregnancy is limited, so pregnant women should ensure consultation with a doctor before use, and breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment according to symptoms is required, and it should be kept out of reach of children, avoiding transfer to other containers.
