View approved original text

Corticosteroids help alleviate itching and inflammation that occur on the skin. They improve symptoms in skin conditions that respond to corticosteroids, thereby reducing patient discomfort. These medications serve to suppress skin inflammation and stabilize skin conditions. Therefore, they are used effectively to treat itching and inflammation caused by skin diseases.

How to use

Adult use

Apply a thin layer to the affected area once a day and gently rub it in until fully absorbed. Avoid occlusive dressings.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with specific skin infections. Symptoms may worsen in cases of bacterial, fungal, virus, or animal-induced skin infections. Patients who are allergic to this medication or any of its components should also avoid use. Caution should be exercised in patients with otitis externa who have a perforated eardrum as healing may be delayed. Use in patients with ulcers or severe burns should be avoided as skin regeneration may be delayed. It is also advised not to use this medication on conditions like perioral dermatitis, common acne, or rosacea. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with perianal or genital itching, and infants under the age of 2. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, children, and elderly patients should use this medication with caution. While using this medication, it is possible to develop bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections, in which case appropriate treatment should be administered or the use of the medication should be stopped. Various skin side effects such as skin irritation, rash, itching, and dry skin may occur, and use should be discontinued if symptoms become severe. Prolonged use may lead to steroid-related side effects such as thinning of the skin or dilation of blood vessels, so the dosage should be gradually reduced. Widespread or prolonged use may lead to systemic absorption of corticosteroids, potentially suppressing hormonal function; therefore, regular check-ups are necessary. When used around the eyes, increased intraocular pressure or glaucoma may develop, and if symptoms such as blurred vision occur, immediate ophthalmological consultation is required. This medication is generally not to be used in cases of dermatitis accompanied by skin infections, but if absolutely necessary, it should be used in conjunction with antibiotics or antifungals. Once symptoms improve, discontinue use as soon as possible, and if they worsen, stop immediately. In cases of pregnancy or breastfeeding, prolonged or extensive use of this medication should be avoided, and it should only be used when absolutely necessary. For children, due to larger skin surface area relative to body weight, hormonal side effects can more easily appear, so long-term use should not exceed 3 weeks. Elderly patients should be monitored closely as they are more prone to side effects. This medication should not be used for ophthalmic purposes, and it is best not to use it in non-treatment situations such as after applying makeup or shaving. When using occlusive dressings, follow the doctor’s instructions and keep the affected area clean to reduce the risk of infection. Store in a safe place out of the reach of children.
