This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive reflux esophagitis, and is effective for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It also helps relieve symptoms in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is also used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori during treatment of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers and contributes to preventing recurrence. It is effective in the short-term management of upper gastrointestinal symptoms associated with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (both non-selective and selective COX-2). Additionally, it assists in the treatment of gastric ulcers in patients undergoing continuous non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy and helps prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding of gastric or duodenal ulcers after intravenous injection. Thus, it is widely utilized in the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal diseases.
