This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, need for vascular surgical procedures, angina, and hospitalization for heart failure in adult patients with multiple risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. It also reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with diabetes who are at high risk of coronary heart disease. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it is used as an adjunct to dietary measures to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglycerides while raising HDL cholesterol. It is particularly useful for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, familial dyslipidemia, and abnormal beta-lipoproteinemia. Thus, this drug is widely used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the treatment of hyperlipidemia.
