Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Hypertension: The initial dose for adults is 50 mg of atenolol taken once daily, either alone or in combination with a diuretic. If there is no effect within 1 to 2 weeks, the dose can be increased to 100 mg once daily, not exceeding 100 mg per day. Angina: The medication should be taken in divided doses of 100 mg once or twice daily, not exceeding 100 mg per day. Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it can be dangerous for patients who have an allergy to this drug's ingredients, severe asthma, chronic lung disease, very low heart rate, or heart conduction disorders. It is also contraindicated in patients with cardiogenic shock, right heart failure due to pulmonary hypertension, congestive heart failure, severe hypotension, or peripheral circulation disorders. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take it. For long-term use, it is important to regularly check heart function, blood pressure, and pulse, and not to suddenly stop taking the medication but to gradually reduce the dosage according to a doctor's instructions. Sudden discontinuation can worsen symptoms of heart disease. If surgery is planned, this medication should be discontinued 24 hours prior to the procedure, and care should be taken during anesthesia. Dizziness may occur when starting this medication, so driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided.
