Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. In particular, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, as well as the risk of revascularization and angina. Additionally, in patients with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for coronary heart disease, this medication is effective in reducing the occurrence of cardiovascular complications. For patients already diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, it reduces the risk of hospitalization due to myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and congestive heart failure. Furthermore, it is used to improve cardiovascular health by controlling cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. In summary, this medication is used for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and the treatment of hyperlipidemia.
The recommended starting dose is 10 mg of atorvastatin once daily. If a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol is required, it may be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosage range is 10 to 80 mg once daily, individualized based on therapeutic goals and response. Lipid levels should be analyzed 2 to 4 weeks after starting or adjusting the dose to guide further adjustments.
