This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is effective in reducing the occurrence of vertebral fractures. However, please note that its efficacy for non-vertebral fractures has not been established yet. It helps improve bone health and contributes to lowering the risk of fractures.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet (20 mg as bazedoxifene) once daily, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of blood clots in the bloodstream, so it is advisable not to use it in women with a history or risk factors for venous thromboembolism, such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. This medication is intended only for postmenopausal women and should not be administered to premenopausal women, pregnant women, or nursing mothers. Unexpected uterine bleeding may occur during the course of taking this medication, so if bleeding occurs, medical consultation is necessary. Its safety has not been established in patients with breast cancer, so its use is not recommended in this group. Individuals with allergies to this medication or its components, those with unexplained uterine bleeding, or those showing symptoms of endometrial cancer should avoid taking this medication. This medication contains lactose; therefore, individuals with lactose intolerance should not take it. Patients with high triglyceride levels or impaired kidney or liver function should be cautious when using this medication, particularly those with liver dysfunction, as its use is not recommended in such cases. Drowsiness or visual disturbances may occur while taking this medication; hence, caution is advised while driving or operating machinery, and if any visual problems arise, immediate consultation with a doctor is required.
