This medication is used to effectively control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular disease in high-risk patients aged 55 and older with a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease. It is especially suitable as an alternative therapy when ACE inhibitors cannot be used. This medication plays an important role in blood pressure management and the prevention of cardiovascular complications, contributing to the overall improvement of the patient's health. Therefore, it is used for essential hypertension and the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk.

How to take

Adult dose

For essential hypertension, Telmisartan is administered orally at a dose of 40 mg once daily with water, and can be taken regardless of meals. It may be increased to 80 mg once daily if necessary, with maximum antihypertensive effects observed 4 to 8 weeks after dose escalation. Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, especially during pregnancy, and should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Especially if swelling occurs in the face, lips, or throat, discontinue use immediately and seek emergency treatment. Regular blood tests should be performed due to the risk of elevated potassium levels, and renal function should also be monitored periodically. If symptoms of low blood pressure occur, it is important to position the patient lying down and administer fluid treatment if necessary. This medication can cause excessively low blood pressure when taken with other antihypertensive drugs, so interactions with other medications being taken should be carefully verified. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and breastfeeding women should also avoid it. It is not recommended for children under 18 years, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients should carefully monitor their condition while taking this medication to prevent excessively low blood pressure.
