Improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be taken alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents alongside diet and exercise therapy. This helps manage blood sugar levels effectively and reduces the risk of diabetes complications. It is utilized appropriately to improve blood sugar control tailored to the patient's condition.
This medication is taken orally once daily irrespective of meals. As monotherapy, it starts at 15 mg once daily, and if not adequately effective, it can be increased to 30 mg. For combination therapy, it also starts at 15 mg once daily, with a maximum recommended dose of 30 mg once daily.
There is no experience in using this medication in children under 18 years old, so administration is not recommended.
This medication is used to treat type 2 diabetes and works to improve insulin resistance. It may put strain on the heart, so patients with congestive heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use it. During treatment, symptoms of heart failure such as rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, and edema should be closely monitored, and if abnormal symptoms appear, the doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication can cause fluid retention, worsening edema or heart failure, so particular caution is needed for patients with edema. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should not take this medication, and should inform healthcare providers immediately in case of new or worsening urinary disorders or hematuria. It is best not to use this medication in patients with poor liver function or severely impaired kidney function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and premenopausal women should use appropriate contraception as this medication may stimulate ovulation. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when this medication is combined with other antidiabetic agents, so dosage adjustment of co-administered drugs may be necessary. Regular blood sugar and liver function tests should be performed during the treatment period, and if symptoms such as sudden weight gain, edema, or shortness of breath occur, the doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication can also be used in the elderly, but patients over 75 years old should use it with particular caution. No specific symptoms have been reported in case of overdose, but if symptoms do occur, immediate medical treatment should be sought. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container for safety.
