This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes, aiding in effective blood sugar regulation by the combined action of linagliptin and metformin.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered twice a day with meals. 1. If not currently being treated with metformin: The initial dose of this medication is 2.5/500 mg taken twice daily, and it can be increased to 1 tablet of 2.5/1000 mg taken twice daily. 2. For patients converting from a combination therapy of linagliptin and metformin: Take the same dosage as previously administered linagliptin and metformin.

Precautions

This medication may cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, therefore it should not be administered to patients with impaired renal function or those with cardiac or liver issues. Additionally, it is prohibited for use by people who have allergies to any components of this medication, individuals with type 1 diabetes, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Be cautious when taking this medication with sulfonylureas or insulin due to the risk of hypoglycemia, and frequent monitoring of blood sugar levels is necessary. Elderly patients with reduced renal function or those taking medications that may affect renal function should have their kidney function tested regularly, and dose adjustments should be made as needed. If you experience acute infections, dehydration, severe trauma, or are undergoing surgery or receiving iodinated contrast media, take a break from this medication temporarily and resume after renal function is stabilized. While using this medication, gastrointestinal disturbances (abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur, and if symptoms are severe, consult your physician. Moreover, this medication can cause vitamin B12 deficiency, so patients taking it long-term should have their blood vitamin B12 levels checked regularly. If skin abnormalities such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid occur, discontinue the medication immediately and inform healthcare professionals. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and it is also advisable to avoid use while breastfeeding. The safety of this medication for children and adolescents has not been established, and it is not recommended for children under 10 years or teenagers aged 10 to 17. There is no research on the effects on driving or operating machinery, but caution is needed due to the possibility of hypoglycemia or dizziness. In case of overdose, serious conditions such as lactic acidosis may occur, requiring an immediate visit to the hospital for treatment, and blood dialysis may be necessary. This medication should be stored in a sealed container away from moisture and direct sunlight, and should be kept out of the reach of children. Avoid transferring it to other containers.
