Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone, or for sufficient blood sugar control not achieved with oral hypoglycemic agents, it may be combined with insulin. Additionally, if control is difficult with sulfonylureas or metformin monotherapy, it may be used in combination with metformin. This helps to effectively improve blood sugar when used with various treatment methods.
Adjusted individually for each patient. Swallow without chewing, with more than 1/2 cup of water. Administer orally once daily. Should be taken before breakfast or just prior to the first meal. Initial dose for monotherapy is started at 1 mg, once daily, increasing by 1 mg at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks. Generally, there is little additional benefit from doses over 4 mg, but it may be increased to a maximum of 6 to 8 mg if needed.
This medication should not be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or in those with diabetic ketoacidosis or in a comatose state. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients should not take it. There is no experience of using this medication in patients with severe liver or very poor kidney function; in such cases, insulin therapy is recommended. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and women who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with severe infections, before and after surgery, or those who have suffered severe trauma should be treated with insulin instead of this medication. Caution is needed if gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea or vomiting occur, as the absorption of food may be impaired and the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not take it. During the first week of dosing, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar should be monitored very carefully. Groups at higher risk for low blood sugar include the elderly, individuals in poor nutritional states or those with irregular eating habits, patients with thyroid or adrenal function abnormalities, patients with decreased kidney or liver function, and those taking other medications concurrently. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include headache, severe hunger, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, and decreased consciousness, so if these symptoms occur, sugar should be consumed immediately or medical personnel should be informed. While taking this medication, maintaining regular meals, exercise, and weight management is very important, and blood sugar control status should be consistently monitored. If hypoglycemia occurs, immediately consume sugar or a sugar-containing beverage to alleviate symptoms, so it is advisable to always have sugar on hand. Taking this medication with other drugs may influence blood sugar control, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of all medications being taken. In cases of overdose, severe hypoglycemia may occur, so immediate emergency treatment is needed, and blood sugar should be continuously monitored. This medication should be kept out of reach of children for safety, and it is important to store it properly sealed in the original container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
