This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It also helps in reducing the risk of death from myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular disease in high-risk patients aged 55 years and over, especially those with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attacks, or those with end-organ damage due to diabetes. Therefore, it is effectively used not only for hypertension but also for reducing cardiovascular risk.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe harm to the fetus during pregnancy, so it should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It should be avoided in pregnant women, nursing mothers, patients with severe liver impairment, specific vascular edema patients, and severe renal impairment patients. Elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia, mild to moderate liver impairment, and those with heart and kidney-related diseases should take this medication with caution. Blood pressure, kidney function, potassium levels, etc. should be monitored regularly during use, and if any abnormal symptoms appear, consult medical staff immediately. This medication may enhance the effects of other antihypertensives, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers of any other medications currently being taken, especially if combined with ACE inhibitors, aliskiren, or potassium-sparing diuretics, as there may be an increased risk of severe side effects. Symptoms such as severe hypotension, vascular edema, liver dysfunction, kidney impairment, and hyperkalemia may occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical treatment sought. Caution is also needed when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or fainting may occur. It is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age due to the lack of established safety and efficacy.
