Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used for treating peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunct in patients with epilepsy for partial seizures, with or without secondary generalized symptoms. Furthermore, it is effective for the treatment of fibromyalgia, primarily alleviating neuralgia and seizures, and helping to improve muscle pain symptoms. It is used for managing various neurological disorders and pain.
This medication is orally administered in two divided doses daily without regard to meals. 1. Neuropathic Pain 1) Peripheral Neuropathic Pain The starting dose is 150mg per day, which can be increased to 300mg per day after 3 to 7 days. If necessary, it can be further increased to a maximum of 600mg per day at 7-day intervals. 2) Central Neuropathic Pain The starting dose is 150mg per day.
Administration of this medication is not recommended for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so mood changes or depressive symptoms should be closely monitored during treatment. Individuals allergic to any components of this drug or those with genetic lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Diabetics may be affected in their blood sugar control due to weight gain, thus adjustments to their anti-diabetic medication may be necessary. If symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face or around the mouth occur during treatment, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Elderly patients should be cautious, as dizziness or drowsiness may increase the risk of falls or injuries while taking this medication. Some patients may experience withdrawal symptoms like insomnia, headache, or anxiety when discontinuing this medication, so do not stop suddenly without consulting a doctor. There is a risk of misuse associated with this medication, so patients with a history of substance abuse should be particularly cautious while taking it. Patients with impaired kidney function should have their dose adjusted, and patients with severe heart disease should also use caution. Taking this drug with other substances that have central nervous system depressant effects or alcohol may increase the risk of drowsiness or respiratory depression, hence caution is advised. During early pregnancy, it is recommended to avoid this medication due to potential effects on the fetus, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consult a physician about discontinuing breast-feeding or the medication, as it can be transferred into breast milk. Before engaging in hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery, check for dizziness or drowsiness caused by this medication. If severe skin reactions such as rashes, blisters, or fever occur during treatment, discontinue use immediately and inform healthcare professionals. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, or seizures may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mouth/eye mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. It is also important to keep it in a cool place between 15 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy.
