This medication is used for adult patients suffering from chronic constipation when their symptoms do not improve with the use of laxatives. This drug promotes bowel movement and helps relieve constipation symptoms by facilitating smoother bowel movements. Regular use is effective in improving the intestinal environment and normalizing bowel habits. Therefore, it is suitable for treating chronic constipation symptoms.
This medication is administered orally and can be taken at any time of the day regardless of meals. Adults should take 2 mg once daily. Elderly patients aged 65 and older should start with a dose of 1 mg once daily, which may be increased to 2 mg once daily if necessary. For patients with severe renal impairment, the dose is 1 mg once daily, while those with mild to moderate renal impairment do not require dose adjustment. For patients with severe liver impairment,

Patients with severely impaired renal function or those who require dialysis should also avoid this medication. Additionally, since this medication contains lactose, patients with genetic issues like galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency should not take it. Patients with severe renal impairment should use this medication cautiously and may require a dosage reduction. Patients with serious diseases affecting the liver, heart, lungs, or nervous system also require special caution when using this drug. Those with a history of cardiac arrhythmias or ischemic heart disease should be particularly careful when taking this medication. For patients with severely compromised liver function, a dosage reduction is recommended. Moreover, caution is necessary when used in conjunction with other medications that may affect heart rhythm. Common gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea may occur with this medication. These symptoms typically arise during the initial treatment phase and often subside over time. Rarely, symptoms such as dizziness, tremors, palpitations, and fatigue have been reported. If new palpitations occur, it is imperative to consult a physician. This drug may decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives in cases of severe diarrhea, so it is advisable to use additional contraception methods. This drug has a low potential for drug interactions but may increase blood concentration when taken with certain strong drugs. Particularly, caution should be exercised when combined with medications that affect heart rhythm, and using it alongside anticholinergics may diminish its effectiveness. There are no specific known interactions with food. Experience with this drug in pregnant women is limited, and its use during pregnancy is not recommended. Women of childbearing age should employ effective contraceptive measures while taking this medication. Lactating women should avoid using this drug, as it may be secreted in breast milk. It is advised not to administer this drug to children or adolescents under 18 years of age. In the case of overdose, symptoms may include headache, nausea, and diarrhea, and there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment is essential. If severe fluid loss occurs due to overdose, electrolyte replacement may be needed.
