Treatment of mild gastroesophageal reflux and prevention of recurrent reflux esophagitis; prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers
This medication is used to treat mild gastroesophageal reflux disease and related symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, and dysphagia. It is also suitable for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of reflux esophagitis. Additionally, it helps prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients who need to take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) continuously. By effectively managing stomach and esophageal issues in various situations, it contributes to improving the quality of life for patients.
1. Treatment of mild reflux esophagitis and associated symptoms: Administer 20 mg of pantoprazole orally once daily before breakfast. Symptom relief generally occurs within 2 ∼ 4 weeks, and healing can usually be achieved with 4 weeks of treatment. If healing is not achieved, an additional 4 weeks of treatment may achieve healing. 2. Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of reflux esophagitis: Administer 20 mg of pantoprazole once daily before breakfast. If relapse occurs, increase the dose to 40 mg of pantoprazole daily, then reduce it to 20 mg daily again after healing. 3. Prevention of gastroduodenal ulcers caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in patients requiring continuous NSAID treatment: Administer 20mg of pantoprazole once daily. • No dose adjustment is necessary in older adults or patients with renal impairment. • Patients with hepatic impairment Do not exceed 20 mg of this drug once daily in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
This medication should not be given to individuals who are allergic to it or its components, or have a history of hypersensitivity. Serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, and bronchospasm may occur. Furthermore, it should not be administered to patients taking specific antiviral drugs like atazanavir and nelfinavir, pregnant women in their early stages or those who may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, and patients taking rilpivirine-containing medications. Immunological reactions may lead to serious allergic responses like anaphylactic shock, and musculoskeletal side effects may include arthralgia and myalgia, with severe cases leading to rhabdomyolysis. Neurological side effects may present as headaches, dizziness, vision disorders, and taste abnormalities, while psychiatric symptoms reported include insomnia, depression, hallucinations, and confusion. Additionally, it suppresses gastric acid secretion, which might slightly increase the risk of infections due to increased bacteria in the stomach; if diarrhea persists, consultation with a healthcare professional is advised. Patients experiencing dizziness or vision disturbances should avoid dangerous activities such as driving or operating machinery.
