Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension. It also helps prevent and treat kidney disease associated with hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes, reducing the cardiovascular burden related to hypertension and improving health.
It is recommended that this medication be taken orally once daily at 50 mg at the same time every day, regardless of meals. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect appears 3 to 6 weeks after the start of treatment. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dose may be divided into two doses a day or increased to 100 mg once daily. For patients with type 2 diabetes with hypertension, the usual dosage is 50 mg once daily, which may be increased to 100 mg based on blood pressure.

This medication can cause serious damage to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take it. Patients with an allergic reaction to this medication, severe liver impairment, certain hereditary diseases, severe kidney problems, or specific heart conditions should not use this medication. Elderly patients, those with high potassium levels in the blood, impaired liver function, or problems with the heart or kidneys should use this medication cautiously and regularly check their condition according to their doctor's instructions. While this medication is generally safe, side effects such as muscle cramps, dizziness, respiratory infections, dyspepsia may occur, and rarely serious side effects such as angioedema or liver function abnormalities may also arise. During treatment, blood pressure may drop too low causing dizziness or fainting, and if symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended. Using this medication with other blood pressure medications or certain diuretics or potassium supplements can lead to dangerously high potassium levels in the blood, so it is essential to consult a doctor before combining it with other medications. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid taking this medication, and if pregnancy is planned or confirmed, medication should be stopped immediately, and health care professionals should be consulted. Children, especially those under 6 years old or with severely impaired kidney function, should not use this medication, and elderly patients need special care when administering it. In case of overdose, hypotension and cardiac arrhythmias may occur, so do not exceed the prescribed dose and visit a medical facility immediately if abnormal symptoms arise. While taking this medication, do not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without consulting a doctor, and keep it out of the reach of children.
