Amlodipine or Olmesartan Medoxomil is used when blood pressure control is not adequate with monotherapy in patients with essential hypertension. These medications effectively lower blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications. Continuous use is important as it can greatly assist in maintaining a healthy blood pressure for the patient. This treatment improves hypertension and enhances overall health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, with or without food, together with water. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day (for example, in the morning). Recommended dosages are as follows: - 5/20 mg: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with amlodipine 5 mg or olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg monotherapy. - 10/20 mg: Administered to patients not adequately controlled with olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy have not been established for pediatric patients under 18 years of age.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients who are allergic to this medication or have severe liver dysfunction should not take it. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also avoid this medication, and caution is needed for patients with certain cardiac valve diseases or biliary obstruction. Patients with fluid or salt depletion may experience hypotension at the start of treatment; therefore, their condition must be monitored closely, and appropriate measures should be taken if hypotension occurs. Patients with heart or blood vessel issues, particularly severe heart failure or obstructive coronary artery disease, should take caution when using this medication. Patients with poor renal function should have their kidney function monitored regularly, as this medication may affect the kidneys. Patients with impaired liver function should also take caution with this medication; dosage adjustments may be required. This medication can cause various side effects, commonly dizziness, headache, hypotension, edema, indigestion, etc. Rarely, serious allergic reactions, hepatitis, and kidney issues may occur, so if any unusual symptoms arise, the patient should consult a doctor immediately. Drug interactions may occur during the course of this medication, so patients should inform their healthcare provider of any other medications they are taking. Especially, it is advisable to avoid taking this medication with grapefruit juice, as it can excessively increase its effect. This medication should not be taken during pregnancy, and if planning to conceive, it is recommended to switch to a safer treatment option. Breastfeeding women should also consider stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing this medication, as it may affect the baby. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to this medication and should start with a lower dose and be managed carefully. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and vasodilation may occur, requiring immediate medical treatment. This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container, protected from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of reach of children.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), difficulty breathing, symptoms of breathlessness or shortness of breath, cough with fever or respiratory distress, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), symptoms of liver dysfunction, sudden and very severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, vision changes, paralysis, significantly reduced urination, severe edema associated with increased blood pressure, angioedema, worsening cerebral infarction, gum bleeding, angioedema, acute kidney failure.
