  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

Essential hypertension refers to a condition where blood pressure remains consistently high, which can affect cardiovascular health in the long term. This medication helps lower blood pressure by either dilating blood vessels or decreasing the workload on the heart. By consistently taking this medication, blood pressure can be managed stably, and the occurrence of complications can be prevented. Therefore, it is effectively used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This drug can cause severe harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it must be stopped immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients who are allergic to any components of this drug, pregnant or nursing, undergoing kidney dialysis, have severe liver impairment, biliary obstruction, or are lactose intolerant should not take this medication. Patients with reduced blood volume or salt levels may experience hypotension, so their condition should be thoroughly checked before starting treatment. Patients with impaired kidney function, kidney transplant recipients, patients with renovascular hypertension, or those at risk of hyperkalemia should use this medication cautiously, and renal function and electrolyte levels should be checked regularly through blood tests. Particular caution is required for patients with aortic stenosis, mitral valve stenosis, or obstructive heart disease when taking this medication. Since this drug can lower blood pressure and may cause dizziness, caution should be exercised while operating dangerous machinery or driving. Common mild side effects may include dizziness, headache, back pain, and bronchitis, while rare side effects such as liver function abnormalities or angioedema may occur. If symptoms such as chronic diarrhea or significant weight loss appear, it is advised to discontinue use of this drug and consult a physician. Caution is necessary when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, as blood potassium levels may increase. When used with lithium, the concentration of lithium may rise and become toxic, so co-administration is not recommended. Pregnant women should avoid this medication to protect fetal health, and nursing mothers should consider discontinuation of either the drug or breastfeeding due to potential adverse reactions in the infant. Safety in pediatric patients has not been established, and it is recommended to avoid use in children. Elderly patients may experience increased drug concentration in their bodies, so dose adjustments and caution are required. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia may occur, and medical intervention should be sought immediately if they arise.
