Treatment and prevention of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of Helicobacter pylori-associated peptic ulcers, and relief of gastrointestinal symptoms related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
This medication is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis. It is effective as a long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrences in patients with esophagitis. It also helps in the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and gastric ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is used to treat symptoms of the upper gastrointestinal tract caused by the intake of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and to prevent gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also effective in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and as maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is widely used for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal diseases.
This medication should be swallowed with liquid such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of esophagitis: 20 mg once daily - Symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily, after symptom relief as needed 1 time daily
Adolescents aged 12 and older - Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, any of its components, or to benzimidazole derivatives, or who have experienced such reactions in the past, should not take it. Patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics or macrolide antibiotics should also be cautious when using this medication in combination. Care must be taken, especially when used in combination with specific medications that may increase the risk of side effects due to interactions. It is advisable for nursing women and patients with a history of myocardial infarction to avoid using this medication. This drug contains the dye tartrazine (Yellow No. 4), which should be used with caution in individuals allergic to this component. This medication may cause various adverse reactions, from common symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and rash to rare but severe blood abnormalities or allergic reactions. Long-term use may lead to electrolyte disturbances such as hypomagnesemia, necessitating regular blood checks. Additionally, as this medication reduces gastric acidity, it may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections within the gastrointestinal tract, so if diarrhea persists, consultation with a doctor is advised. Caution is required in osteoporosis patients or in cases of prolonged high-dose use, as the risk of fractures may increase. This drug can interact with various medications, and especially when combined with anticoagulants, antiviral agents, and antibiotics, should be used under medical advice. Safety during pregnancy has not been fully established, so careful consideration should be given when pregnant women use it, and it is recommended that it not be used during breastfeeding. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment based on symptoms is important and should be kept out of reach of children.
