Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori-associated peptic ulcers, relief of gastrointestinal symptoms related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use, treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, prevention of rebleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers, and maintenance therapy.
This medication is used for the long-term maintenance therapy of erosive esophagitis due to gastroesophageal reflux disease and to prevent the recurrence of esophagitis. It is also effective in relieving gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis. It is included in combination antibiotic therapy for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It aids in the short-term treatment of upper gastrointestinal symptoms that occur with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use and is also beneficial for the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients requiring ongoing NSAID therapy. This is a very useful drug for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal disorders.
This drug should be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. For patients whose esophagitis is not resolved or symptoms persist, administer for an additional 4 weeks. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in esophagitis patients: 20 mg once daily. - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. If symptom control is not achieved after 4 weeks, further medical consultation is needed. - Once symptoms are relieved, for continuous symptoms, administer 20 mg once daily for control. - In adults, 20 mg may be administered once daily as needed. In patients at high risk for gastric or duodenal ulcers due to NSAID administration, it is not recommended to administer this as needed for continuous symptom control. 2) Combination antibiotic therapy for eradication of Helicobacter pylori Administer this drug at 20 mg combined with amoxicillin 1 g and clarithromycin 500 mg, two times daily for 7 days. 3) Short-term treatment for upper gastrointestinal symptoms (pain, discomfort, burning sensation) associated with NSAID use - 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further medical consultation is needed. Clinical trials for longer than 4 weeks have not been conducted. 4) For patients requiring ongoing NSAID administration - Treatment of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers: 20 mg once daily. Treatment duration is 4 to 8 weeks. - Prevention of NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers: 20 mg once daily. 5) Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome The recommended initial dose is 40 mg administered twice daily. Further dosing should be adjusted based on the patient, continuing treatment as long as clinical symptoms are present. According to clinical data, most patients can be managed at doses between 80 to 160 mg daily. For doses exceeding 80 mg daily, the dose should be divided into two doses per day. 6) Maintenance therapy after intravenous induction for prevention of rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers After intravenous induction for prevention of rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers, administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. 2. Adolescents aged 12 years and older 1) Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. For patients with unresolved esophagitis or persistent symptoms, continue for an additional 4 weeks. - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis: · 20 mg once daily. If symptom control is not achieved after 4 weeks, further medical consultation is needed. · Once symptoms are relieved, for continuous symptoms, 20 mg may be taken once daily for control. · In adults, 20 mg may be taken as needed once daily. It is not recommended to use this for continuous symptom control in patients at high risk for gastric or duodenal ulcers due to NSAID administration. 3. Children under 12 years There is no experience administering this drug to children under 12 years. 4. Renal impairment Dose adjustment is not required. Caution should be used due to limited examples of administration in severe renal failure patients. 5. Liver function impairment No dose adjustment is needed in mild to moderate liver impairment patients. In severe liver impairment, doses should not exceed 20 mg. 6. Elderly Dose adjustment is not necessary.

This drug should not be used by patients who are allergic to certain ingredients or to this drug itself. Caution is advised for patients allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, especially when used in combination for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. Patients taking certain heart-related medications or with a history of myocardial infarction, as well as breastfeeding women, are also advised against using this drug. This drug contains a dye called Yellow No. 5, and patients with an allergy to this component should use it carefully. Rarely, various side effects such as blood-related diseases, allergic reactions, electrolyte imbalances, neurological symptoms, gastrointestinal problems, liver function abnormalities, skin reactions, etc. may occur. Regular monitoring is necessary during prolonged use, and if symptoms change during medication, the physician should be consulted immediately. This drug lowers stomach acidity and may increase the risk of certain bacterial infections; therefore, if diarrhea persists, healthcare professionals should be notified. Long-term or high-dose use may increase the risk of fractures, so caution is needed in patients at risk for osteoporosis. This drug has numerous drug interactions, particularly with antibiotics, antiviral agents, anticoagulants, and anticonvulsants, and should be taken according to the doctor's instructions. Safety data on use during pregnancy is limited, so pregnant women should consult healthcare providers before use. It is recommended that breastfeeding women do not take this drug. There are no specific antidotes for overdose, so supportive treatment according to symptoms is required, and it should be kept out of the reach of children. Moreover, transferring the drug to other containers poses risks of accidents and affects quality; thus, caution should be exercised.
