Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is a suitable treatment for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine or olmesartan medoxomil. It works by dilating blood vessels, reducing blood pressure, thereby decreasing the burden on the heart and blood vessels. Consequently, it helps with effective management of essential hypertension and reduces the risk of complications. Depending on the patient's blood pressure control status, dosage adjustments or combination therapy may be necessary. This treatment aims for stable blood pressure maintenance and health improvement.

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, if pregnancy is confirmed, it should be stopped immediately. Patients with allergies to this medication, severe liver disease, severe aortic stenosis, biliary obstruction, those undergoing kidney dialysis, in a state of shock, certain diabetic patients, and those with severely impaired kidney function should not take this medication. Patients with low fluid volume or sodium may experience hypotension, so their status should be carefully monitored during use, and appropriate measures taken if blood pressure decreases. Due to the risk of rapid blood pressure drop from vasodilation, caution should be exercised in patients with aortic stenosis or severe obstructive coronary artery disease. Precaution is required for patients with heart failure, and regular tests are necessary as renal function changes may occur in patients with impaired kidney function. Patients with liver dysfunction should also be cautious when taking this medication. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, hypotension, edema, dyspepsia may occur; if these symptoms persist or worsen, consultation with a doctor is advised. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should choose other therapies with confirmed safety instead of this medication, and breastfeeding women should consider stopping breastfeeding or the medication as adverse reactions may occur in infants. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Elderly patients should start with a low dose, considering renal and liver function decline, and should be cautious about drug interactions.
