Relief of overactive bladder symptoms and frequency and urinary incontinence due to bladder disorders
This medication is used for the treatment of urinary frequency and urinary incontinence caused by bladder dysfunction, such as neurogenic bladder, neurogenic urinary frequency, and unstable bladder. It is also effective in conditions of bladder irritation due to chronic cystitis or chronic prostatitis. It particularly helps to improve symptoms of urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence due to overactive bladder. These symptoms can cause significant discomfort in daily life, so this medication plays an important role in alleviating these symptoms. Overall, it is used to relieve and treat various symptoms related to bladder dysfunction.
Adults: As propiverine hydrochloride, 20 mg is administered orally once daily after meals. The dose may be adjusted according to symptoms; if the effect is insufficient and there are no safety concerns, 20 mg may be taken up to twice daily.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Individuals allergic to this medication or its components should not use it. It is also contraindicated in patients with gastrointestinal obstruction, as it may exacerbate symptoms by inhibiting gastrointestinal muscle movement. Patients with impaired gastrointestinal function or bladder issues should be cautious due to the anticholinergic effects of this medication, which could worsen symptoms. Particularly, this medication should not be used in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, heart disease, toxic megacolon, ulcerative colitis, liver dysfunction, and arrhythmia. This medication contains lactose, so patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance should not use it. Moreover, patients with difficulty urinating, liver dysfunction, kidney dysfunction, Parkinson’s disease, hyperthyroidism, elderly individuals, autonomic neuropathy, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and glaucoma should use this medication with caution. While taking this medication, patients may experience neuropsychiatric symptoms such as hallucinations or delusions, so careful observation is required. Gastrointestinal side effects may include severe constipation or abdominal distension, and cardiovascular side effects such as palpitations and arrhythmias may occur. Hematological effects may involve thrombocytopenia, while urinary issues may include kidney function decline or urinary retention, necessitating immediate treatment upon noticing any abnormal symptoms. Skin reactions such as rashes or itching can also occur, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may arise. Acute glaucoma attacks caused by increased intraocular pressure may occur, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary if vision changes or eye pain occur. Symptoms related to liver dysfunction, muscle pain, weakness, and rhabdomyolysis may also manifest, and upon any abnormal signs, administration should be stopped and appropriate treatment sought. Before using this medication, it's essential to check for diseases that may cause similar symptoms, such as bladder cancer, prostate cancer, urinary tract infections, and urinary stones, and prioritize the treatment of complex urinary tract obstruction diseases such as benign prostatic hyperplasia. Caution is advised to avoid drowsiness, dizziness, and accommodation disorders, which may complicate driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication should be used with caution when combined with other anticholinergics, tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazine drugs, and MAO inhibitors, as it may enhance anticholinergic effects. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should avoid this medication, as its safety is not established, and breastfeeding women should ideally discontinue nursing. Safety in pediatric patients has not been confirmed; hence, its use is not recommended. Elderly patients, often with reduced liver and kidney function, should start at a lower dose and use this medication carefully. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as delusions, seizures, gait disturbances, paralytic ileus, tachycardia, and hypertension may occur, necessitating prompt medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and care should be taken not to transfer it to another container, as this can lead to accidental ingestion or quality deterioration.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture, preferably at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the effectiveness of the medication and prevent degradation.
