This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension and effectively lowers blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular diseases in high-risk patients aged 55 years and older, who have difficulty taking ACE inhibitors. Therefore, this drug plays an important role not only in the management of hypertension but also in the prevention of cardiovascular complications.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential Hypertension Administer Telmisartan 40 mg orally once daily with water, regardless of meals. Treatment may begin with 20 mg once daily if necessary, and can be increased up to 80 mg once daily. The maximum antihypertensive effect is usually observed 4 to 8 weeks after the start of treatment. 2. Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease Risk Administer 80 mg orally once daily with water.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus during pregnancy; therefore, if pregnancy is confirmed, intake should be immediately discontinued. It should not be used in patients with an allergy to this medication or severe liver dysfunction, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and patients with certain hereditary diseases. Elderly patients, those with weakened kidney function, and patients with high potassium levels in the blood should be particularly cautious when taking this medication and should regularly monitor their condition under a doctor’s guidance. Women planning to become pregnant or who are already pregnant should avoid using this medication, and it is also advisable to avoid taking it while breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children and adolescents have not been established, so it is not recommended.
