Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular invasive procedures in adults with various risk factors for cardiovascular disease and in patients with diabetes. Additionally, it reduces the risk of hospitalization due to myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and congestive heart failure in patients with heart disease. Furthermore, it is used to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol in patients with hyperlipidemia, thereby improving blood lipid levels. This drug is also effectively used as an adjunct in various types of dyslipidemia that do not respond well to dietary changes. Thus, this medication is used beneficially to maintain cardiovascular health and manage hyperlipidemia.
Atorvastatin is administered once daily at any time of day, regardless of meals. The recommended initial dose is 10 mg, and in cases where greater LDL cholesterol reduction is needed, it may start at 20 mg or 40 mg. The dosage range is from 10 to 80 mg. The initial and maintenance doses should be individualized based on the treatment goals and patient characteristics, and lipid levels should be re-evaluated within 2 to 4 weeks after initiation or dose adjustment.
