Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and other gastrointestinal diseases
This medication is effective for gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also used to prevent Mendelson’s syndrome when administered before anesthesia and to treat postoperative ulcers that may occur. It helps with gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Thus, it is widely used for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal diseases.
Usually administered orally, 2 tablets two times a day in the morning and before bedtime regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers Administer 2 tablets two times a day or 4 tablets once at bedtime. Especially for patients with duodenal ulcers, administering 4 tablets two times a day in the morning and at bedtime may achieve higher treatment rates. Dosage is the same for ulcers caused by NSAIDs or combination therapy to prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers due to long-term use of NSAIDs. Usually, conditions caused by NSAID use heal within 8 weeks, although healing time may occasionally be extended depending on the patient. For patients with recurring ulcers who have had excellent short-term therapy with this medication, 2 tablets should be administered once at bedtime as maintenance therapy. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease For 8 weeks, administer 2 tablets two times a day or 4 tablets once at bedtime. In severe cases of gastroesophageal reflux disease, the dosage may be increased to 4 tablets four times a day. 3) Zollinger-Ellison syndrome As an initial dose, start treatment with 2 tablets three times a day, and the dosage may be increased as necessary. In severe cases, under a doctor's direction, doses of up to 6 g of ranitidine may be given per day. 4) Peptic ulcer, acute stress ulcer, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to acute mucosal lesions Once oral administration is possible, switch from injection to oral administration, taking 2 tablets two times a day. 5) Pre-anesthetic administration (to prevent Mendelson’s syndrome) Administer 2 tablets 2 hours before anesthesia induction. It is also preferable to administer 2 tablets the night before the surgery.
