Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis (gastrointestinal diseases)
This medication is used for various gastrointestinal diseases including gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also administered before anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome, treat ulcers that may occur after surgery, and help manage gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is effective for alleviating and treating the symptoms of these conditions.
Generally, 2 tablets are taken orally twice daily in the morning and before bedtime, regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers 2 tablets are taken orally twice daily or 4 tablets are taken once daily before bedtime. Particularly for duodenal ulcer patients, administering 4 tablets twice daily in the morning and before bedtime can yield a higher treatment success rate. For ulcers due to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration, the dosage remains the same for co-therapy in prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers during long-term use of NSAIDs. Typically, diseases due to NSAID use heal within 8 weeks, but healing time may occasionally be extended depending on the patient. For recurrent ulcer patients who have shown excellent effects with short-term therapy of this medication, a maintenance therapy of 2 tablets once daily at bedtime is indicated. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease For 8 weeks, either 2 tablets taken twice daily or 4 tablets taken once daily at bedtime. However, for patients with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, the dosage can be increased to 4 tablets four times a day. 3) Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Start treatment with an initial dose of 2 tablets orally three times daily, and it can be increased as needed. In severe cases, under medical supervision, doses of up to 6 g of ranitidine per day may be administered. 4) Peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to acute mucosal lesions Once oral administration is possible, transition from injection to oral dosing with 2 tablets taken twice daily. 5) Pre-anesthetic dosing (preventing Mendelson's syndrome) Administer 2 tablets 2 hours prior to anesthesia induction. In this case, taking 2 tablets the night before surgery is also beneficial.
