This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications as part of combination therapy. This improves blood sugar control and is effective in managing diabetes.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dosage for this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to its active ingredient or other components, or those with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. When used with insulin or sulfonylureas, which can cause hypoglycemia, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so dose adjustment may be necessary. Experience with this drug in patients with congestive heart failure is limited; therefore, it should be administered with caution. Acute pancreatitis symptoms may appear, and if symptoms such as abdominal pain suggesting pancreatitis occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Skin conditions such as bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if blisters or skin lesions develop, inform a doctor immediately, and drug discontinuation and treatment may be necessary if required. Hypoglycemic symptoms may develop while taking this medication, so one must be vigilant for signs of hypoglycemia, especially when used in combination with other diabetic medications. Use in pregnant or breastfeeding women is not recommended, as safety has not been established; consult a specialist if necessary. This medication has not been studied in children under 10, and it is advisable not to use it in this age group. It may be administered to adolescents aged 10 and older under the discretion of a healthcare provider. In elderly patients, it can be used without special dose adjustments, but caution is needed based on health status. Patients with renal or liver impairment can also be administered the drug without dose adjustments, but close monitoring is required. In the event of overdose, there is no specific antidote; measures should be taken to prevent absorption of the drug from the gastrointestinal tract and observe symptoms, receiving necessary treatment.
