Improvement of hypertension and diabetic nephropathy
This medicine is used to treat hypertension and is particularly effective in patients with hypertension who also have nephropathy due to type 2 diabetes. It helps to stabilize blood pressure and prevent deterioration of kidney function, thus used for improvement of kidney problems caused by hypertension and diabetes.
For hypertension treatment: administer 50 mg orally once daily as Losartan Potassium. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, it may be divided into two doses daily or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension: normally 50 mg once daily, may increase to a maximum of 100 mg once daily, depending on blood pressure. An initial dose of 25 mg is recommended if there is concern for blood pressure drop.
Children aged 6 years and above: - Weight 20 kg or more but less than 50 kg: Recommended 25 mg once daily, may increase up to 50 mg once daily. - Weight 50 kg or more: Generally 1 daily dose of 50 mg.
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. Women who may become pregnant or are pregnant should not take this drug, as it may cause issues with fetal lung development or skeletal formation. This drug should not be used in patients with severe liver dysfunction or hereditary angioedema. Additionally, patients with specific genetic issues such as galactose intolerance should avoid this medication. Caution should be exercised when prescribing this drug to the elderly, patients with reduced kidney function, or those with hyperkalemia, and blood pressure and kidney function should be monitored regularly. Since this drug has an effect of lowering blood pressure, if blood pressure drops too low, symptoms such as dizziness or loss of consciousness may occur, so caution is necessary. There is a risk of increased serum potassium levels, so it is advisable not to take this drug with potassium supplements or medications containing potassium. During the administration of this drug, if any unusual symptoms occur such as liver function abnormalities, changes in kidney function, or allergic reactions, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. In particular, if symptoms of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, throat, etc.) occur, the drug should be discontinued immediately, and emergency treatment should be sought. This drug is not recommended for use in nursing women, so it is preferable to discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication. This drug should not be administered to children, especially those under 6 years of age or those with severely reduced kidney function. While taking this drug, caution should be exercised during driving or operating machinery due to possible dizziness. In case of overdose, hypotension and abnormal heart rates may occur, and if symptoms appear, immediate medical treatment should be obtained.
