Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is a condition characterized by a gradual decline in memory and cognitive function, and this medication helps to slow the progression of symptoms and improve quality of life. It aids in mitigating cognitive decline and supports smoother daily living. With consistent use, it can effectively manage symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, making it a suitable therapeutic option for patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease.
This medication should be taken orally once daily at the same time every day. If necessary, it can be administered twice daily. The dosage escalation method is as follows: during the first week, take 5mg once daily; during the second week, take 10mg once daily; during the third week, take 15mg once daily for 7 days; starting from the fourth week, take 20mg once daily. The recommended maintenance dosage is 20mg once daily.
This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to its components. It is also not safe for patients with severely impaired liver function or very poor kidney function. Patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures, or those with a constitution prone to seizures, should use this medication with caution. Additionally, taking this medication with similar acting drugs such as amantadine, ketamine, or dextromethorphan can increase the risk of side effects and should be avoided. Patients with conditions that may change urine acidity must be monitored closely during use. The safety of this medication for patients with heart disease or uncontrolled hypertension has not been established, so caution is required. Patients using this drug may experience side effects such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension; if these symptoms worsen, consultation with a doctor is necessary. Rarely, symptoms of confusion, hallucination, and psychosis may occur, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist of any current medications. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must carefully consider the benefits and risks of using this medication, and nursing mothers are advised to discontinue breastfeeding. Its safety and efficacy have not been confirmed for children or adolescents under the age of 18, so it is recommended not to use it. In case of overdose, severe symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, and vomiting may occur, necessitating immediate visit to a medical facility; as there is no specific antidote, treatment will be provided according to symptoms. Patients using this medication should exercise caution when driving or operating machinery and keep it out of reach of children. Additionally, transferring the medication to another container may jeopardize its quality and safety and should be avoided.
