This medication is used for various upper gastrointestinal bleeding conditions including gastric and duodenal ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, as well as peptic ulcers or acute stress ulcers. It is also effective in treating gastroesophageal reflux disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It aids in the improvement of gastric mucosal lesions such as erosion, bleeding, redness, and edema during acute exacerbations of acute gastritis and chronic gastritis. This drug protects the gastric mucosa and promotes healing of ulcers, improving digestive health. Overall, it is widely used for the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to its components. Additionally, since it contains lactose, those with genetic disorders that prevent lactose digestion should also avoid it. Individuals with a history of drug allergies should use caution when taking this medication. Patients with poor kidney function may have prolonged drug concentration in the body; therefore, the dosage should be reduced or the dosing interval should be increased. Patients with heart disease should be cautious as they may experience side effects related to the heart. Patients with poor liver function should take it carefully as symptoms may worsen. Elderly patients are at higher risk for reduced kidney function and may have increased drug concentrations, so caution is warranted. While taking this drug, there can be serious side effects such as severe allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, skin rashes, liver dysfunction, muscle abnormalities, heart rhythm issues, kidney problems, and pneumonia; if any unusual symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and visit a medical facility. This medication dissolves in the mouth but is not absorbed there, so it must be swallowed with water or saliva. Patients on hemodialysis may experience reduced effectiveness when taking this drug with certain phosphate binders. There may be interactions with other drugs, especially when taking certain antifungals or anticancer agents, so caution is needed. Pregnant women or those who could become pregnant should only take this medication after consulting with a doctor if necessary and should discontinue breastfeeding if they are nursing. It is not recommended for children as safety has not been adequately established. It can be taken by placing it on the tongue and dissolving with saliva, but it should not be taken without water when lying down. Lastly, this drug may mask symptoms of gastric cancer; therefore, ensure it is not a malignant condition before use.
