Treatment of gastrointestinal diseases including gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis
This medication is used for conditions related to the stomach and duodenum, including gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It also helps prevent ulcers that may develop post-surgery and treats gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is also used to prevent Mendelson's syndrome when administered before anesthesia. Overall, it is effective in protecting the gastric mucosa and alleviating symptoms of inflammation and ulcers.
Generally, take 1 tablet orally twice a day, regardless of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers: Either administer 1 tablet twice a day or 2 tablets once before bed. Particularly, for patients with duodenal ulcers, taking 2 tablets twice a day in the morning and before bed can yield a higher treatment rate. 2) Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: Take 1 tablet twice daily for 8 weeks or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime.
This medication should not be used in patients with poor kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Patients allergic to this medication or its ingredients should not be administered. This medication is also not recommended for patients with a history of acute porphyria, which is a rare condition. It is best to avoid use in patients who have undergone gastric surgery, pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant, as well as in premature infants or neonates. Patients on a diet that restricts potassium intake should exercise caution. Patients with poor liver function, the elderly, or those with a previous history of drug allergies should use this medication cautiously. Patients taking NSAIDs should frequently monitor their gastrointestinal condition, especially if there is a history of gastric ulcers. This medication may hide symptoms of gastric cancer, so if middle-aged patients experience new indigestion symptoms, they should confirm if it is malignant before use. Patients with H. pylori infection in gastric or duodenal ulcers should undergo treatment to eradicate the bacteria. In severe patients or those with swallowing difficulties, there may be a risk of gastric stones or respiratory complications, so caution is warranted. Rarely, serious allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms, or neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur during the use of this medication, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, notify a doctor immediately. Use the minimum required dose without long-term administration, and carefully monitor treatment progress. Also, the elderly or patients with chronic illnesses should be aware of an increased risk of pneumonia. During the course of taking this medication, dizziness or drowsiness may occur, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. When used alongside other medications, there may be interactions, so consult with a doctor or pharmacist, especially when taking anticoagulants or specific antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs. It is safest not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is recommended not to use this medication in children as safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently confirmed. In case of overdose, emergency treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, blood dialysis may be required. Lastly, this medication may reduce gastric acid secretion, promoting bacterial growth in the stomach, so regular check-ups, including eye examinations, are necessary for long-term use.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from exposure to air or moisture. The recommended storage temperature is between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius (room temperature). Storing it this way helps maintain the drug's effectiveness for a longer period.
