Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medicine is used in patients with essential hypertension when adequate blood pressure control is not achieved with telmisartan alone. It helps effectively manage blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of complications associated with hypertension.
Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan alone should take this medication once a day with water, regardless of meals. - The telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination 40/12.5 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 40 mg of telmisartan alone. - The telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination 80/12.5 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 80 mg of telmisartan alone.
The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 18 years of age.
This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be used by pregnant women. Individuals allergic to any component of this medication or those with hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-type drugs, pregnant women in the second and third trimesters, nursing mothers, patients with cholestasis or obstructive biliary diseases, severe liver or kidney impairment, and those with certain electrolyte abnormalities should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, liver impairment, heart disease, gastrointestinal disease, or renal artery hypertension should exercise special caution while using this medication, and should avoid sun exposure to reduce the risk of skin cancer, while regularly monitoring skin condition. Although this medication has blood pressure-lowering effects, it can cause various side effects, such as dizziness, hypotension, arrhythmia, gastrointestinal disorders, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, muscle pain, etc., and if any unusual symptoms appear, consultation with a physician is recommended. This medication can interact with other blood pressure medications, diuretics, lithium, potassium supplements, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so it is essential to inform the physician of any other medications currently being taken, and to regularly monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels. If planning a pregnancy or if pregnancy is confirmed, it is recommended to discontinue this medication as soon as possible and switch to other safe alternatives. Additionally, nursing mothers should not take this medication. In case of overdose, hypotension, electrolyte imbalance, and dehydration may occur, so it is important to adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, and to immediately seek medical attention if any unusual symptoms arise. This medication is not recommended for children under the age of 18 as safety and efficacy have not been established, and it should be used cautiously in the elderly due to the risk of excessive blood pressure lowering leading to stroke.
