This medication is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, including ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and reflux esophagitis. It also aids in the prevention of Mendelson syndrome before anesthesia and management of postoperative ulcers. It is effective in treating gastric and duodenal ulcers that may occur with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, alleviating symptoms and promoting recovery. Overall, it is useful for treating gastrointestinal-related disorders and improving symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults generally take 1 tablet orally twice daily, with or without meals, in the morning and just before bed. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Take 1 tablet orally twice daily or 2 tablets just before bed once daily; for duodenal ulcer patients, take 2 tablets orally twice daily in the morning and just before bed. 2) Reflux esophagitis: For 8 weeks, take 1 tablet orally twice daily or 2 tablets once daily before bed.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis treatment or those with poor renal function. Additionally, patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not take it. Patients with a history of acute porphyria, a rare blood disorder, should also avoid this medication. It should not be administered to patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery or to pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as well as to premature infants and newborns. Patients on a potassium-restricted diet are also advised against using this medication. Patients with poor liver function, a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, and those with a history of kidney problems should exercise particular caution when using this medication. If taken in conjunction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, regular monitoring is necessary, as this may mask symptoms of gastric cancer; therefore, gastric ulcer patients or those over middle age with newly emerging dyspeptic symptoms should be assessed for malignancy before administration. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric/duodenal ulcers require eradication therapy. Care should be taken when using this medication in critically ill patients, those with hypophosphatemia, or those with swallowing difficulties. While taking this medication, adverse reactions such as allergic shock, skin rash, urticaria, and angioedema may rarely occur; should any abnormal symptoms arise, cease use immediately and consult with a healthcare professional. This medication may affect the blood, potentially reducing white blood cell or platelet counts, so if symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, or fever appear, testing should be conducted. Liver dysfunction may occur; should jaundice or severe fatigue present, stop taking the medication. Reported symptoms such as abnormal heart rhythm, nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, etc., warrant caution. If muscle pain or joint pain occurs, consult a doctor; it may also cause skin rash or hair loss. Long-term use of this medication is not recommended, and if no therapeutic effect is observed, switching to another medication is advised. Elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or weakened immune systems should be cautious as they may have an increased risk of pneumonia. If experiencing dizziness or drowsiness during use, avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs; if currently taking any other medications, it's essential to inform your healthcare provider, especially when taking anticoagulants, antibiotics, or certain painkillers. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. Safety has not been established for pediatric use, so administration to children is not recommended. In the case of overdose, vomiting or gastric lavage may be required; in severe cases, removal may be possible through hemodialysis. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, so regular ophthalmic examinations are advised for long-term users.
