Precautions

This medication helps in controlling blood sugar levels. However, it should not be used in certain patients, for example, those who are allergic to the components of this medication, those with severe renal impairment, those in acute infection or shock states, those with poor liver function, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Due to the Metformin component, this medication may cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious side effect. Lactic acidosis is a condition caused by an excessive buildup of lactic acid in the body, which can manifest as symptoms such as difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and lethargy. If such symptoms occur, consultation with a physician must be sought immediately, especially for patients with acute renal failure or heart disease. Additionally, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so when taken with other blood sugar-lowering medications such as insulin or sulfonylureas, blood sugar should be monitored frequently, and medication doses adjusted according to the physician's instructions. Older adults or patients with renal impairment should undergo regular kidney function tests before and during treatment with this medication, and if kidney function falls below a certain threshold, this medication should be discontinued. This medication may cause unusual reactions such as acute pancreatitis, severe joint pain, and skin rashes, so if any of these symptoms arise, the physician should be notified immediately. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption, and caution is required in dehydration or severe gastrointestinal disorders. If using iodinated contrast media for radiological exams, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after the examination, and it should also be discontinued for a certain period before and after surgery. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication and should consult a physician to find appropriate methods for blood sugar control. Finally, this medication should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers; it should be stored in a moisture-free environment.
