Improvement of hypertension and diabetic nephropathy
This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension and is particularly effective in preventing and treating kidney disease due to hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes. By controlling hypertension, it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications and protect kidney function. Therefore, it is used for the improvement of various complications related to hypertension.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For the treatment of hypertension, the initial and maintenance dosage is 50 mg of Losartan Potassium taken orally once daily. If the treatment effect is insufficient, it can be divided into two doses per day or increased up to 100 mg once daily. For the treatment of kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, typically 50 mg once daily is administered.
For children and adolescents aged 6 years and older: For patients weighing 20 kg or more but less than 50 kg, 25 mg once daily may be administered and can be increased to a maximum of 50 mg once daily. For patients weighing 50 kg and above
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be taken by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant. Patients with allergic reactions to this medication, severe liver impairment, or certain hereditary diseases should avoid its use. Elderly patients, those with impaired kidney function, and patients with hyperkalemia should use this medication with caution and regularly monitor their blood pressure and kidney function. Although this medication generally has good tolerability, side effects such as dizziness, muscle cramps, back pain, cough, and dyspepsia may occur, so any abnormal symptoms should prompt consultation with a doctor. Especially, since blood pressure may drop too low or kidney function may worsen, it's vital to inform healthcare professionals immediately if symptoms appear. This medication can interact when taken with other antihypertensive agents, diuretics, or potassium supplements, so it is essential to inform the doctor of any medications currently being taken. Pregnant or lactating women are advised not to take this medication, and if it is necessary to take it, they should follow the guidance of a healthcare professional. Children, especially those under 6 years of age or those with severely impaired kidney function, should not use this medication. In case of overdose, conditions like hypotension or bradycardia may occur, so the dosage must be strictly adhered to, and immediate treatment should be sought if unusual symptoms arise.
