Improves myocardial ischemia due to hypertension and coronary artery disease (stable angina, variant angina)
This medication is used to control hypertension and improve myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina due to fixed blockage of coronary arteries or variant angina due to vascular spasms.
This medication should be taken with a sufficient amount of water. As esamlodipine, it is taken orally once daily at 2.5 mg, with the possibility of increasing to a maximum of 5 mg per day based on the patient's response. Adjust as appropriate based on symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication, its ingredients, or similar medications should not take this drug. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding, should also avoid this medication. Patients with cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina, or those within one month after a myocardial infarction should not use this drug. Patients with severely impaired liver function or very low blood pressure should also avoid this medication. Furthermore, patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take this drug. This medication should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney dysfunction or those requiring dialysis, the elderly, patients with acute heart failure, hypertensive crisis, and those with mild to moderate liver dysfunction. While taking this medication, various side effects may occur. Common side effects may include facial flushing or a feeling of warmth, fatigue, or swelling. Symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, headaches, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle swelling may also occur. Rarely, symptoms such as dry mouth, increased sweating, low blood pressure, insomnia, mood changes, skin rashes, and liver function abnormalities have been reported, so consultation with a physician is advised if symptoms are severe. This medication should not be abruptly discontinued as it may aggravate symptoms; dosage should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions, and patients should be careful not to stop taking it arbitrarily. In patients with reduced liver function, the drug's half-life may be prolonged, thus requiring dosage adjustments and caution. The tablets should be swallowed with sufficient water, and patients should be cautious with driving or operating hazardous machinery due to the potential for dizziness or drowsiness caused by the blood pressure-lowering effects. This medication may interact with several other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, patients must inform their doctor or pharmacist. In particular, concomitant use with grapefruit juice may enhance the effect of this medication, so it should be avoided. For those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, safety has not been established, and use should be avoided; breastfeeding should be discontinued when using this medication. This drug is suitable for use in children aged 6 years and older, and safety and efficacy have not been confirmed for children under 6. Elderly patients may experience higher concentrations and prolonged half-lives, so it is advisable to start at a lower dose and use caution. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, arrhythmias, and shock may occur, requiring immediate treatment in a hospital, and hemodialysis is not effective. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container.
