Treatment of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, relief of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and other gastrointestinal disorders.
This medication is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and duodenum and relieve the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used in conjunction with antibiotics in patients with gastric ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori. This medication may also help with acid-related disorders such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, it is used to improve and treat symptoms of various gastrointestinal disorders.
Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: Typically, 10 mg of Rabeprazole Sodium is administered orally once a day to adults. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once daily. Treatment duration for gastric ulcer is up to 8 weeks, and for duodenal ulcers, it is up to 6 weeks. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg is administered once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms persist after 8 weeks, an additional dose may be given.
This medication should not be used in patients who have allergies to certain ingredients or a history of hypersensitivity. Although rare, serious skin reactions or severe adverse reactions such as interstitial nephritis and hepatic encephalopathy have been reported; if abnormal symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately, and medical advice should be sought. This medication strongly suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures with long-term use, and may cause hypomagnesemia, hence periodic blood tests are essential. Moreover, the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infection may be slightly increased, so if diarrhea persists, consultation with a healthcare provider is recommended. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. This medication may interact with various drugs; therefore, it is crucial to inform healthcare providers if taking other medications, particularly with certain antivirals, antibiotics, or warfarin.
