Improvement of urinary symptoms caused by prostate enlargement
This medication is used for urination disorders caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia.
In adults, initiate treatment with naftopidil 25mg once daily. If the effect is insufficient, gradually increase to 50~75mg at intervals of 1~2 weeks and administer orally once daily after a meal. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms, but the maximum daily dose is 75mg.
This medication should not be used by patients with allergies to specific ingredients. Additionally, since it contains lactose, patients with lactose intolerance or genetic sugar metabolism disorders should not take it. Patients with impaired liver function may experience increased blood concentrations of this medication, requiring caution. There is insufficient experience with patients who have severe heart disease or cerebrovascular disorders, so it should be used carefully. Elderly patients should be cautious as liver function may be reduced, leading to delayed excretion of this medication. When taken with blood pressure-lowering medications, there is a risk of too low blood pressure, and verification before use is necessary. Patients with orthostatic hypotension may also experience a sudden drop in blood pressure when taking this medication, necessitating caution. This medication may cause side effects such as dizziness, lightheadedness, and low blood pressure, so if any unusual symptoms occur, medical consultation should be sought immediately. If serious side effects like liver dysfunction or loss of consciousness occur, discontinuation of use and appropriate treatment are required. Overdosing may lead to a significant drop in blood pressure, so adherence to the prescribed dosage is crucial. There may be dizziness due to orthostatic hypotension, so care should be taken when changing positions abruptly. Caution is needed while driving or performing hazardous activities during medication use. Those taking blood pressure-lowering agents should closely monitor blood pressure changes and adjust dosage as necessary. This medication is a treatment that alleviates symptoms, so if efficacy is lacking, alternative treatment options should be considered. When combined with diuretics or other blood pressure-lowering agents, the antihypertensive effect may intensify, so healthcare consultation is necessary. Especially when taken with PDE5 inhibitors, there is an increased antihypertensive effect, requiring caution. Elderly patients should be monitored closely while taking this medication considering the potential for decreased liver function. Store out of reach of children, and take the medication out of the packaging before use. Swallowing the packaging may cause esophageal damage and serious complications, so caution is necessary. Patients who have previously taken α1 blockers should inform their healthcare provider as certain ophthalmic complications may occur during surgery.
