Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection (including duodenal ulcers), relief of gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and prevention of ulcers.
This medication can be used long term to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, especially erosive esophagitis, and to prevent recurrence in esophagitis patients. It also helps alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. Patients with duodenal ulcers or peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection can be treated in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. It is effective for treating and preventing upper gastrointestinal symptoms and gastric ulcers related to the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is also used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and maintenance therapy after preventing re-bleeding via intravenous injection. Overall, it is used to treat and prevent various symptoms and complications related to gastrointestinal diseases.
This medication must be swallowed with liquid such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. May extend for an additional 4 weeks if symptoms persist. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence: 20 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment of GERD without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. After symptom relief, continue titration with 20 mg once daily to manage any recurring symptoms. In adults, 20 mg once daily may be administered as needed. For patients at high risk for gastric and duodenal ulcer development associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use, continuous symptom management is not recommended. 2) Combination therapy with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori Administer this medication 20 mg with amoxicillin 1 g and clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. 3) Short-term therapy for upper gastrointestinal symptoms (pain, discomfort, burning) related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (non-selective COX-2, selective) - 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical consultation is required. Clinical trials exceeding 4 weeks have not been conducted. 4) For patients requiring continuous therapy with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - Treatment of gastric ulcers related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily. Treatment duration is 4 to 8 weeks. - Prevention of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily. 5) Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome The recommended initial dose is 40 mg twice daily. Subsequent doses should be adjusted according to the patient, and treatment should continue as long as clinical symptoms are present. According to clinical data, most patients can be managed at doses of 80 to 160 mg per day. Doses exceeding 80 mg per day should be divided into two doses per day. 6) Maintenance therapy after inducing prevention of re-bleeding caused by intravenous gastric or duodenal ulcers Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks to maintain after inducing prevention of re-bleeding caused by intravenous gastric or duodenal ulcers.
Adolescents aged 12 years and older - Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. Extend for an additional 4 weeks if necessary. - Symptomatic treatment of GERD without esophagitis:
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to this drug or its ingredients, or to medications in the benzimidazole class, should not take it. Additionally, patients with allergies to certain antibiotics or drugs used in conjunction with this medication for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori should also avoid it. Breastfeeding women and patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not use this medication. Various adverse reactions can occur during the use of this drug, so caution is needed. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may commonly occur. Rarely, serious side effects such as blood disorders, hypersensitivity reactions, hypomagnesemia, mental confusion, skin rashes, and hepatic dysfunction may occur, so it is important to consult a doctor immediately if any unusual symptoms appear. Regular examinations are required for long-term use of this drug, and any symptoms suggestive of malignancy should be evaluated by a specialist. Since it suppresses gastric acid secretion, there may be a slight increase in the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally, patients with osteoporosis or at risk for fractures should exercise caution as there may be an increased risk of fractures with long-term use. This drug has many interactions with other medications, so patients taking other drugs must inform their physician or pharmacist, especially when taking antiviral drugs, antibiotics, anticoagulants, etc. During pregnancy, although no specific abnormalities were found in animal studies, it should be administered cautiously to pregnant women. In breastfeeding cases, it is preferable not to use this medication as it has not been confirmed whether it is excreted in breast milk. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so treatment will be symptomatic, and it should be stored out of the reach of children. Transferring the medication to another container may cause accidents or degrade quality, so caution is advised.
Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, severe allergic reactions, jaundice, hepatitis, liver failure, encephalopathy, liver dysfunction, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, DRESS syndrome, severe skin reactions, severe edema, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, serious neurological symptoms: seizures, altered consciousness, severe edema or urinary abnormalities: generalized severe edema.
Headache, dizziness, unusual sensations, drowsiness, taste disturbances, blurred vision, bronchospasms, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, stomatitis, increased liver enzymes, hepatitis, dermatitis, itching, rash, urticaria, alopecia, photosensitivity, myalgia, muscle weakness, hyperhidrosis, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, allergic reactions, facial swelling, facial flushing, fatigue.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to avoid exposure to air or moisture, at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage can help maintain the drug's effectiveness for a longer period.
