Precautions

This medication can cause serious health risks due to a rare side effect known as lactic acidosis, so it should not be used, particularly in patients with impaired kidney function or acute illnesses. Patients with allergies to the active ingredients or components of this medication, or with certain diabetic conditions such as type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, should also refrain from taking it. It should be avoided in patients with severely impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, heart failure, liver dysfunction, acute alcohol intoxication or chronic alcoholism. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are also advised not to use this medication, and women planning to become pregnant should be especially cautious. When used with other blood glucose-lowering agents, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so patients should be well informed of hypoglycemic symptoms and dosage adjustments may be necessary if needed. This medication is affected by kidney function, thus regular kidney function tests should be performed, and if kidney function declines, dosage adjustments or discontinuation may be required. Acute pancreatitis, severe arthralgia, or bullous skin diseases may occur, so if such symptoms arise, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so monitoring through blood tests is essential during prolonged use. This medication can interact with several other drugs, therefore, it is crucial to inform medical staff if taking other medications, especially those that may affect kidney function. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and safety in children has not been established. Elderly persons should be administered carefully due to common declines in kidney function and routine monitoring of kidney function is necessary. In cases of overdose, serious side effects such as lactic acidosis may occur, so dosage should be adhered to, and if unusual symptoms arise, immediate medical attention should be sought. Store in a place out of reach of children, avoid moisture, and do not transfer to another container.
