Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients with allergies to its ingredients. After using this medication, about 25% of patients may experience mild changes in taste. Additionally, 2-5% of patients may experience symptoms such as eye irritation, headache, or nasal mucosal inflammation. Post-market surveys in South Korea have reported no serious side effects or unexpected severe adverse reactions; however, conjunctival edema has been noted in rare cases. As this medication contains phosphates, patients with severe corneal damage should be cautious, as it may cause a rare side effect known as corneal calcification. Contact lenses should not be worn while the eyes are red, and this medication should not be used for treating irritation related to lens wear. The preservative benzalkonium chloride may adsorb to soft lenses; therefore, do not use this medication while wearing lenses, and wait at least 10 minutes after administration before wearing lenses. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been fully established, so it should only be used when the benefit is deemed greater than the potential risk to the fetus. Animal studies have reported some teratogenic effects or fertility issues at high doses; however, the risk at normal usage levels appears low. It is unclear whether this medication is excreted in human breast milk, so nursing women should exercise caution when using it. The safety and efficacy in children under 2 years of age have not been established, and for children under 10 years of age, although similar efficacy to adults is expected, caution is warranted. Little difference has been reported in the safety and efficacy of this medication between elderly and younger individuals. This medication is for ocular use only, and care should be taken not to let the tip of the container touch the eyelid or eyelashes, as this may contaminate the solution. Avoid sharing with others, and do not use the remaining medication after 4 weeks following opening. Keep out of reach of children, store in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Transferring the medication to another container may result in misuse; therefore, it must be stored in the original container. Long-term animal studies have confirmed that this medication does not induce cancer and has no genetic toxicity. In animals dosed with high oral doses of this medication, decreased fetal viability or decreased fertility has been reported; however, such risks are minimal at typical ophthalmic doses.
