Treatment of acute non-infectious conjunctivitis (edema, hyperemia) and anterior segment inflammation (e.g. anterior uveitis)
This medication is used to treat acute non-infectious conjunctivitis with severe edema and hyperemia, allergic keratitis, as well as non-infectious inflammation in the anterior segment like anterior uveitis, scleritis, and episcleritis. It is also effective in alleviating inflammation resulting from strabismus surgery, cataract surgery, and glaucoma surgery. This medicine helps to effectively improve various inflammations in the eyes.
Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 2-3 times a day. For adults, during the first 24-48 hours, instill 1 drop every hour.
This medication is an eye drop that reduces inflammation and alleviates hyperemia. However, individuals who are allergic to the ingredients of this medication should not use it. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid using this medication for safety. People with eye infections, glaucoma, or dry eye should avoid this medication as well. It should especially be avoided in cases of corneal damage or viral, bacterial, or fungal infections. This medication is not recommended for children under 2 years of age. Patients with blood circulation issues such as heart diseases or hypertension, thyroid abnormalities, and diabetes should use this medication cautiously. Additionally, those taking certain medications or with a history of cataract or herpes simplex infection should be careful. Patients with allergic rhinitis, as well as children and teenagers, should also be cautious when using this medication. Mild irritation symptoms may appear briefly after use but usually do not significantly affect treatment. Long-term use may lead to elevated intraocular pressure, necessitating regular eye pressure checks. Also, prolonged use may rarely result in eye hyperemia or allergic reactions such as dermatitis and keratitis. Due to the corticosteroid component, there is a risk of cataract or corneal damage. Since secondary infections in the eye tissues may occur, consult a doctor immediately if infection symptoms appear. It is advisable to avoid wearing soft contact lenses during the use of this medication. Limit prolonged use, and if used for more than 2-3 days, regularly check intraocular pressure and monitor for side effects. If corneal ulcers persist, consider the possibility of a fungal infection. Temporary blurriness may occur upon instillation, so avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. This medication can be dangerous when combined with drugs that may raise blood pressure, so co-administration should be avoided. Particularly, using it with specific antidepressants or MAO inhibitors increases the risk of side effects. Moreover, co-administration with CYP3A4 inhibitors can lead to increased systemic side effects, so follow a doctor's instructions when using it. The safety in children and adolescents has not been established, and there is a potential for systemic side effects, so use cautiously. In case of excessive use, severe side effects have not been reported, but overdose of tetrahydrozoline may manifest as pupil dilation, cyanosis, high fever, cardiac issues, and central nervous system depression symptoms. In such cases, seek appropriate medical treatment immediately. Before use, the solution should be shaken well and must be used solely for instillation. When instilling, avoid direct contact of the container opening with the eye, and it is advisable not to share it with others to prevent contamination. Keep the medication out of reach of children and store it in a cool, dry place, avoiding direct sunlight. Also, to maintain quality, do not transfer it to another container.
Mild irritation symptoms that do not affect treatment, increased intraocular pressure, reactive hyperemia, allergic reactions in the form of eyelid eczema, punctate keratitis, periorbital dermatitis, cataracts, corneal defects, secondary infections, delayed wound healing, mydriasis, psoriasis, exophthalmos, nutritional corneal damage, posterior subcapsular cataracts, corneal thinning, corneal perforation, headache, insomnia, vision blur.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
